1. Experience “winter” in Southeast Asia

Are you thinking of going to Japan and Korea to escape the hot humid weather in Singapore? Want a chance to wear your winter clothes? There is no need to go so far. Just a 2-hour flight away, you get to experience temperatures below 10°C.

2. Mt Bromo is a destination for all ages

The sunrise tour to Mt Bromo is not physically demanding. We saw many multi-generational families with young kids and older adults during our visit there.

The most challenging part is waking up at 2am and braving the cold. To see the sunrise itself, there is no need to walk much. The journey from Surabaya airport to Sukapura village by car takes 2hrs. Afterwards, you transfer to a jeep to ride up Mt Penanjakan where you will see the sunrise.

If you want to get up close to the volcanic crater after seeing the sunrise, the jeep will bring you down to the black sea of sand. The Mt Bromo volcanic crater is a 20min walk across the black sea of sand. If walking is too demanding, you have a paid alternative option to ride a pony that brings you to the foot of Mt Bromo’s volcanic crater and all you need to do is climb up one flight of stairs!

3. Jeep ride adventure

The whole ride up the mountain on a jeep, is an experience by itself! The drivers are so experienced and familiar with the route, that they can navigate the winding mountain roads in the dark. If you are prone to car sick, do eat a those car sick pills before the ride as it can get quite bumpy at some parts!

The tour also offers you the opportunity to take very beautiful pictures with the jeeps too! Here are some of our favourite pictures.

Nothing beats seeing a landscape unveiling itself by the sunlight. In the dark, our guide brought us to this viewpoint. We saw virtually nothing because it was pitch black. Then when the sun start to rise, it lights up the very picturesque mountainous landforms!
